Can anyone reverse a confirmed swap or recover stolen tokens?

A confirmed swap does not have a general chargeback or undo function. Recovery depends on the actual destination, contract features and parties with control—not on a wallet interface marking the trade as unwanted afterward.

Identify the type of problem

• Failed same-chain transaction: attempted state changes may have reverted, while gas remains charged.
• Successful but poor trade: reversing direction would be a new trade at new prices and fees.
• Wrong recipient: recovery depends on control of that address or a receiving service.
• Stolen assets: investigation and reporting can help, but tracing does not itself restore control.

MetaMask distinguishes pending cancellation from confirmed irreversibility. Ethereum’s scam-support guidance describes reporting and possible relevance of funds reaching a centralized service.

Check for a real recovery mechanism

A receiving exchange may have a documented process for supported mistakes. A contract may expose a specific withdrawal or refund path. Those possibilities must be verified for the exact asset, network and transaction.

Do not assume every router can return arbitrary tokens sent to it, or that an issuer can reverse any transfer. Control and contract rules determine what is possible.

Protect what remains

Review malicious allowances and potential key compromise separately from the lost funds. Preventing another transfer may still be possible even when the first cannot be undone.

Preserve hashes, addresses, messages and accepted quote details. Avoid promises that an upfront validator fee, recovery tax or wallet synchronization will reverse a finalized transaction.
