Recovery agents asking for an unlock fee: what evidence matters?

A promise to recover stolen crypto after an upfront “unlock,” “verification” or “validator” payment is a serious warning sign. Ask what actual authority or contract mechanism would return the assets.

Separate tracing from recovery

Anyone can show public transactions on an explorer. Finding a destination address does not mean the analyst can sign for it, compel a return or reverse the original transfer.

A credible service should explain the scope of its work, what it cannot control and why any payment is due. Professional analysis and guaranteed fund recovery are not the same deliverable.

Verify claimed affiliations independently

If someone claims to represent a wallet, exchange, auditor or authority, contact that organization through its genuine website. Do not verify the claim by calling a number or following a link supplied only by the claimant.

Never provide a recovery phrase, private key or broad wallet approval as proof of ownership. Public addresses, hashes and documented account procedures serve different purposes without giving away signing control.

Preserve evidence

Save the original loss records and the recovery offer. If you already paid, record that transaction too and stop following escalating payment demands. A fabricated dashboard balance can keep rising while no recoverable funds are actually under your control.

Focus on protecting remaining assets and using verified reporting channels. Urgency and certainty in a sales pitch do not create a blockchain recovery mechanism.
