A zero-fee statement is meaningful only when it names the fee category. An interface can charge no service fee while the swap still incurs pool charges, network payments or a less favorable size-dependent exchange rate. Evaluate the final result, not the word zero in isolation.
Ask which ledger entry disappeared
Consider hypothetical Route A with no interface charge, output worth $995 and $1 separate execution cost. Route B has an interface charge already reflected in output worth $997 and a $0.50 separate cost. B leaves $996.50 net value; A leaves $994.
The presence of a fee did not make B more expensive overall. Its other execution terms outweighed that component. Equally, this example does not imply that an interface charge is beneficial; it shows why the complete quote decides the economic comparison.
Keep protocol and interface layers distinct
Protocol fee documentation describes charges at the pool layer. An interface's commercial promotion does not automatically remove fees belonging to an underlying pool or another participant.
For a gas-sponsored offer, determine whether the user pays nothing for execution or whether payment is recovered through another deduction. Both can remove the need to spend native tokens directly, but their net outcomes differ.
A useful evidence checklist
Identify the covered fee, eligible transaction type, any cap or condition, and whether final output is after deductions. Compare a matched quote on the same assets, network, size and timing. Avoid assuming an offer applies merely because a general landing page uses the phrase.
After execution, reconcile received quantities and separate payments. If the fee disclosure cannot explain a discrepancy, record the unknown rather than automatically labeling it a hidden charge. The goal is a complete economic comparison with explicit boundaries, not a ranking based on promotional vocabulary.
