Trading volume measures activity over a period. Depth measures currently available execution at a specified size or price band. The same capital can turn over many times, so large historical volume does not establish large instantaneous capacity.
A turnover example
Imagine a hypothetical pool processes 10,000 small trades of $100 during a day. That is $1 million of volume. It does not imply that a single $1 million swap could execute at the small trades' rates.
Conversely, a pool can have substantial current depth but little recent activity. Low volume alone does not prove that its next quote will be poor.
Align time windows and state
Volume may cover the last day while the displayed liquidity reflects the current block. If capital was withdrawn recently, historical activity can describe a market that no longer exists.
Size-specific execution depends on available liquidity. A turnover statistic is useful context, but it is not an input-output quote for the requested amount.
Use each metric for its proper question
Volume can help describe whether a venue has been active. Depth helps estimate execution capacity. For a trade decision, obtain the actual quote, inspect its size sensitivity and retain the time of observation.
When comparing pools, avoid a ratio such as daily volume divided by TVL being presented as a direct slippage estimate. That ratio describes turnover relative to valued capital and leaves out the curve's distribution, trade direction and the size now requested.
A strong report can show recent volume alongside depth at several explicit cost limits. It should not promote one as a substitute for the other. If only volume data is available, state that current executable capacity remains unmeasured rather than deriving a precise maximum trade size from historical turnover.
