A jump in a quote ladder is a diagnostic signal, not proof of one particular cause. Reproduce the change under matching conditions, then inspect the route and state before assigning it to liquidity.
Locate the threshold
Suppose hypothetical inputs of 990 and 1,000 produce smoothly increasing outputs, but 1,010 changes the average rate sharply. Request a few neighboring sizes and record the route, fees, observation time and quoted transaction costs for each.
Confirm the exact asset amounts and decimal formatting. A rounded input field can make two supposedly neighboring requests much farther apart than they appear.
Check distinct explanations
- A route switches to different pools or an additional hop.
- The trade moves beyond a dense liquidity range.
- A fee rule changes with the request or pool condition.
- Quotes were collected from different market states.
- An interface applies a threshold or rounds a displayed value.
Active-liquidity boundaries provide one structural explanation, but the same observed pattern can arise from the other items.
Distinguish amount output from average rate
A larger input can return more tokens while offering a sharply worse average rate. That is different from a quote returning fewer total tokens for more input. The latter deserves careful checking of state, route and presentation before interpreting the economics.
Calculate the incremental output between neighboring sizes and compare it with each trade's average. Preserve any route switch in the report rather than smoothing it away.
If the threshold disappears when quotes are collected comparably, the original observation may have been timing noise. If it persists, state what evidence identifies the cause and what remains uncertain. Avoid converting one discontinuity into a permanent maximum trade-size recommendation; the relevant liquidity and routing state can change.
